# 5 What Elections?
"Elections... What Elections?" Has been the response by several people interviewed by NUTS outside the Hallward library today.
Not everyone is as keen on SU politics as me, it seems, and not least the SU themselves. Promotion of the SU elections this year has been appalling, conspicious only by its absence. Many have complained of the absence of any reference to the campaigns on the SU website, and in comparison to previous years you wouldn't know the elections were going on unless you've been flyered by a campaigner or kept your eyes and ears out with Impact and URN on a daily basis.
Candidates themselves have been concerned by the lack of publicity, fearing that without efficient SU publicity and particularly distribution of the manifesto booklets, that come voting time the electorate will be unable to do anything but vote for popularity over policy.

# 4 ...A President Without a Cause
As the first week of campaigning draws to a close, things seem at first to have gone fairly smoothly, and in comparison to last year dramatic turns have been few and far between.
However, we've had a few moments worthy of raised eyebrows.
Firstly - the revelation that James Phillips, the 5th presidential candidate, had failed to hand in his manifesto not to sheer incompetence, but due simply to the fact that he is currently in Thailand. An epic practical joke, it seems his friends put him into the presidential race without his knowledge. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the same had been done to one or two of the other potential Presidents, with 2 of the remaining 4 failing to produce campaign videos or, more importantly, attend last nights CRISIS.
Of the 2 presidents who did take their campaign to the club, both were seen ducking out early - one with a very pretty but inebriated blonde on his arm.
In other news, the elections have seen two more drop outs so far. James Tobias has left the race for AU Officer due to being offered one too many Law vacation schemes (if indeed one can have too many!). Head and Hawkin will need a lot less stamina to win the race now the tipped favourite is going to be spending more time in court than on the basketball court.
Rumours abound that James Hastings ceased his campaign for Equal Opps and Welfare due (all too ironically) to bullying from other, unnamed campaigners. On further inspection it turns out this was, in his words "utter rubbish" - he has suffered no such treatment and attributes the rumour to overzealous interference from current officer Dan Downes. In fact, he has dropped out due to the exhausting nature of campaigning, saying "I just don't want it enough."

# 3 The Manifestos Unofficial Release
Today, several candidates received this link:
http://www.su-web2.nottingham.ac.uk/~portal/elections/2010/
from a mysterious 'Paul Eckel' saying 'I think it's only fair we all get a sneaky peak'.
The page is clearly still under construction but shows the manifestos for almost all of this this year's candidates, albeit under last year's pictures.
That's What She Said was going to keep this little link under her hat for a bit longer, but it looks like she's been pipped to the post! Enjoy!

# 2 Leaked List
All the candidates have it. All the University media outlets (URN, Impact, Nuts) have it. Why don't the students have it?
I don't want to completely spoil the fun by leaking the full candidate list so instead, here are a few clues as to who's running for President:
1. Despite the rumours, his campaign is not sponsored by Diana Vickers.
2. Not so much head cheerleader as head boy... will his slogan be Bring It On?
3. This Muay Thai fighter was heard saying 'I'm going to approach this election like I approach my fights.' Will he be Ben-ding the rules?
4. With the same surname as one of last years candidates, he'll be hoping he has better luck than she did.
5. "The purpose of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his." Rumours that his campaign slogan match his facebook quotes are as yet unconfirmed. And no, it's not a girl's name.
